Things he does...

It's fun to watch our little guy and wonder what he is thinking about, looking at, dreaming of, or whatever. I haven't really spent a lot of time around baby's (other than being the goofy type uncle to all your kids). In other words I haven't had the time to watch and observe things babies do that mimic what an adult would do, and although it may appear obvious to some of you, it's a lot of fun for me.

What we have been up to ...

Just wanted to share a few photos from the last few weeks. Toph is already starting to change so much from his first couple of days. Nanna told him he is no longer a newborn now that he lost his umbilical cord. I wish I could say he is getting bigger but he isn't really putting on weight. We are still working on getting back upto his birth weight, but we will get there soon. He was born at 7 lbs 10oz and dropped to 6 lbs 15oz. They told us it's usual to lose some weight and that our goal would be to have him back to his original weight at the two week mark. We will see how much he weighs at his appointment tomorrow.

I can't believe he is almost 3 weeks old, time goes by fast.

Happy Mothers Day

So yesterday was my wife's first mothers day. She has only been a mother for 12 days but has amazed me. I love watching her do the things that mothers love to do. To those who have heard me joke about being a stay at home dad, I say to you, suga momma's are great, but baby's momma's are better!

Allison worked right up until the due date, and I think she probably would have worked up to the day (and even the day after). Her strength astonishes and inspires me. People have asked how I like being a dad, and all I can say is that Allison is such a good mom that it makes being a dad easy. She is wonderful and I'm so glad she loves being a mom!!!

Good Lookin Baby

One of my biggest worries was that I would get one of "those babies"... You know a baby that is cute because it's a baby, but really actually kinda ugly. Yeah I got a great looking wife which clearly was passed on to him. But after looking at some pictures I thought to myself does Topher look like a baby Oompa Loompa?

PS Allison loves staying up to bond with Toph. It may have sounded otherwise, but I had to beg to stay up with Toph alone. Thanks to all those who ave given us words of enouragement!

OUR NIGHT ...

So Friday and Sunday night were a little long. No matter how much I fed the little guy he wouldn't go to sleep, at least not for the 2-3 hours he was typically sleeping after each feeding. So I got to thinking, what can I do to prepare him a little more for night time and sleeping longer stretches? I did some reading and decided to try and keep him awake for longer spans during the day, not allowing him to sleep after every feeding. We also decided to try and keep him awake for the 2-3 hours before his 10:00 feeding and then plump him up and put him in his crib.

So 10:00 came and we were right on schedule. We put him in his crib and hurried up and went to bed. I hadn't slept in our bed since we left the hospital, and it felt like forever since I had cuddled with my Hubby. We chose to sleep in the living room the last couple nights since I was still sore and our bed is a little high and I would have woken Chris up a million times each night. Since he is the one getting up and going to work he needs his sleep so we try to be as discrete as possible during the night.

It was about 20 minutes later that we heard him whimper. I was trying to lay really still (as though that would help him stay quite and go back to sleep) and holding my breath that he would just fall back asleep. That didn't work. Chris got up to find that he needed his diaper changed and to bust out the Binky so mom could get some sleep. That lasted for about an hour. I got up around 11:30 to feed him and then put him back in his crib and went back to bed. He woke up again around 3:15. We ate, Topher had milk and I had cereal. I then decided to stay on the couch. Sleep is sleep no matter where you are. Right!

Topher woke up for the day at 7:55. Well just long enough to hang out with Dad and to eat.

It was a GREAT NIGHT :)
